  • Green Ghosts P paradoxa variations

One of the intriguing things about Ghost mantids is the variety of colors they can be. Most notably the Green color Ghost which is highly sought after.
We are not sure what causes this color morph though there are some things we expect are factors.

1-Genetic disposition. There would be a genetic factor which causes this. Although it likely needed to be stimulated by environmental, nutritional chemical influence. Like with other animals such as canaries and cardinals for example, they get their strong red color from foods such as berries and which hazel that have red dye or food coloring. The red canaries you’ll see in pet stores are born yellow and would stay yellow if not fed color.
A similar example of color feeding would be with some flowers, like Hydrangeas, which can be many different colors depending on the minerals they are fed.

A notable fact is that the Green Color in P paradoxa Ghost only is found in the females!

I have not been able to find any research that shows why it occurs with this species and only the females. Does this suggest that it is genetic or a combination of hormonal the  adipokinetic peptides, or a protein factor which determines it.
