    Metallyticus splendidus. Iridescent bark mantis

Iridescent bark mantis (Metallyticus splendidus) -Borneo

Metallyticus splendidus …is an extraordinary species of Metallyticid mantis which is spread throughout Southeast Asia. M. splendidus

This is a favorite of mine and have a small group M. splendidus of these and M. violaceus pairs and nymphs. They are relatively simple to care for though habitat and diet need be specific for successful rearing and breeding. I will being uploading log files as things develop, images as well.

I feel privileged to have found these and am focused on having successful breeding colonies

  • Feeding
  • Firebrats in all stages. Freshly hatched nymphs of M. violaceus need freshly hatched fire-brats. You can additionally feed Small fruit flies (D. melanogaster) to small nymphs.
  • 2/14/2018- They are incredibly fast and clever. Quick to flight and dodging around corners - and into crevices evasive say the least. I have a loose male in my bookcase for days. It comes into plain sight but recapturing it has been quite a challenge
