Reptiles are ectothermic ("cold-blooded"), which means that they don't produce their own body heat. Instead, they depend on external heat sources like the Sun for the heat energy that their bodies need to function properly.
The Zoo Med ReptiTherm Under Tank Heater is designed to mimic the radiant heating effect of surfaces that have been warmed by the Sun in nature. This device can be used as a primary or secondary heat source for terrestrial reptiles, particularly those that are active at night.
All of Zoo Med’s Under Tank Heaters are UL/cUL approved and contain a solid state nichrome heating element.
Dimensions: 4" x 5"
Wattage: 4w
Instructions for Use:
Stick the Zoo Med ReptiTherm Under Tank Heater on the extreme left or right side of the terrarium to create a temperature gradient. The mat should cover roughly 1/2 of the terrarium's floor space and be large enough to accommodate your reptile's entire body.
Heat mats work best with a thin (<2") layer of substrate. Terrariums with a thicker substrate layer should use an overhead heat source such as a or , depending on the intended use.
To keep your habitat at the right temperature and prevent burns, it is very important to use a thermostat such as the with your heat mat!
